The island of Ustica
Ustica is the top of a submerged volcano in the Tyrrhenian Sea, 36 miles from the north coast of Sicily. The jagged coast and the black volcanic rocks give it a wild aspect and the intense colors of the vegetation and the splendid seabed make it even more fascinating. On its 8 square kilometers, with a perimeter of 10 km, there are hidden roads and paths to enjoy magnificent views between dry stone walls, cultivated fields, Mediterranean scrub and the ever-present background of an enchanting sea.
A popular destination for divers for its breathtaking seabed and the wealth of underwater flora and fauna, among the most popular in the Mediterranean; for this reason safeguarded, for more than 30 years, by the first Marine Protected Area in Italy.
From the port, go up to the small town, where about 1000 people live throughout the year, which will welcome you among its stone-paved streets and colorful murals; inside you will find shops, bars, restaurants and all other services.
How to reach Ustica
The island is connected every day throughout the year with Palermo by ferries and hydrofoils. For more information, you will find links and contacts of the shipping companies below.
